Getting to Know: Philip J. Reid

Hello, LibreTexts followers! It's that time of the week again. This week, get to know Philip J. Reid, a member of the LibreTexts general advisory board.

Philip J. Reid received his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Puget Sound, his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, and was a post-doctoral associate at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. His research interests include condensed-phase ultrafast spectroscopy and single-particle optical microscopy with applications to materials chemistry. Philip served as Deputy CIO and Associate Vice Provost for UW-IT Academic Services from 2013 to 2017. Activities include providing collaborative (e.g., email, wiki, google apps) and academic (e.g., learning management systems, lecture capture, grade submission portals) services; the design, implementation, and operation of classroom technologies; the development and support of student information systems (e.g., academic planning, student data base, curriculum management); increasing the accessibility of teaching and learning technologies, and providing technical support to faculty, staff and students. Philip was appointed Vice Provost for Academic and Student Affairs (ASA) at the University of Washington in 2017, and currently serves in this position. ASA provides centralized teaching and learning services, oversees project management and strategy develop for the Office of the Provost, provides leadership for enrollment management services (admissions, financial aid, registrar, international student services), and oversees the UW Privacy Office.
